We are looking for Engineers, Building Science Technologists or students to service our continually growing client base.

Company Information

Brown & Beattie Ltd. are Building Science Engineers that provide assistance to Owners and Property Managers in the effective maintenance of their buildings. We present options and recommendations for appropriate repair programs and oversee the work for conformance to specified standards.

Positions Available

Engineering Student

As an Engineering Student you will be primarily involved in the collection of information from the field and reporting to the Project Engineers. This will include during planning stages as well as during the restoration work.

Familiarization with building science concepts would be an asset, however extensive related knowledge is not required. You will need to effectively convey your thoughts and relevant information both within the company and on site.

Building Science Engineer or Technologist

As a Building Science Engineer you will be responsible for the construction review and contract administration of building repair projects. Duties will include inspection of work, progress reports and client liaison. Other assignments will include assessment of buildings and investigation of various building components. You will need to effectively convey your thoughts and relevant information both within the company and to clients and contractors.

Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of experience, however new university or college graduates of Civil Engineering, Building Science Engineering, or Building Restoration programs would also be considered.

Forensic Engineer

As a Forensic Engineer you will be responsible for the assessment of structural damage related to building insurance claims including the preparation of reports and design of structural repairs. Typical insurance claims include fire, floods, hail damage, vehicle impact, wind damage, and collapses. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Architectural or structural drafting skills would be an asset. Experience in wood framing design and familiarity with the Ontario Building Code is required. Applicants must have their P.Eng. designation in Ontario and have a minimum of 5 years experience in forensic engineering.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you must have extensive experience in the evaluation and assessment of building mechanical systems such as HVAC, boilers, cooling towers, chillers, domestic water systems, drainage systems and fire suppression systems. Knowledge of building electrical systems is also required. Experience with design and retrofit of building mechanical systems and design of repairs for high-rise residential buildings is required. The position will also involve written condition assessment reports on mechanical systems. Knowledge of condominium reserve fund studies would be an asset.

Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of experience and have their P.Eng. designation in Ontario.

Administrative Assistant

We have an opening for a part-time office administrative assistant. We are a fast paced Building Science Engineering firm located in Richmond Hill with a smaller branch in Guelph. As an administrative assistant in the Richmond Hill office you would be assisting in the daily administration of the business and providing administrative support for a group of engineers company wide. This challenging position requires a minimum of 5 years office / administrative experience with exceptional computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Adobe. You must have strong editing and proofreading skills as well as the ability to deal with clients on a daily basis. Excellent communication skills. We are looking for an administrative assistant who wants to grow with this rapidly expanding engineering firm who can start immediately. This position will initially offer 20-25 hours per week, however may increase to 35-40 hours per week as you integrate into the company. Salary is negotiable but will generally be commensurate with experience.

General Candidate Requirements

Since the positions involve extensive site work, a reliable vehicle is a must (not required for office positions). Also, the Engineering Student and Building Science Engineer positions involve accessing the sides of buildings on suspended stages, so the applicants cannot have a fear of heights. All applicants must be completely familiar with MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat and MS Outlook

Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on applicant qualifications.
